On-Demand Webinar: From Model to Mouth: Mastering Thermo-formed Appliances Using the Drufomat Scan
This educational course explores the fabrication of three of the most commonly requested thermoformed dental appliances: sports mouthguards, clear aligners/retainers, and night guards while using the Dreve Drufomat Scan pressure forming system in combination with Dreve thermoforming plastics.
Led by Dr. Ray Padilla, DDS, Team Dentist for the NBA Los Angeles Lakers, NFL Los Angeles Chargers, WNBA Los Angeles Sparks, and UCLA Athletics, and faculty member at the UCLA School of Dentistry, participants learn directly from a clinician with decades of sports dentistry experience, including work at the Olympic Games and World Cup soccer tournaments, and a published authority on dental appliance manufacturing.
Course topics include:
-Fundamentals of pressure thermoforming vs. traditional vacuum forming, and why precision matters for fit, retention, and appliance longevity
-Material selection for sports guards, aligners/retainers, and night guards, matched to appliance function and patient needs
-Guided demonstration of the Drufomat Scan, covering barcode-based material recognition, adjustable working pressure (up to 6 bar/87 psi), and vertical foil adaptation for superior internal detail
-Clinical protocols for sports mouthguard fabrication, informed by real-world experience across professional and Olympic-level athletics
-Aligner and retainer workflows, including sequential fabrication considerations
-Night guard design for occlusal protection, including approaches relevant to CMD and bruxism management
-Troubleshooting common thermoforming pitfalls: thin spots, poor marginal adaptation, material-specific handling, and other tips and tricks
By the end of the course, have a complete understanding on how to produce clinically reliable, well adapted appliances across all three categories using Drufomat pressure-forming technology.
